Carole Wainaina

Former COO of Africa50

Carole is a Kenyan global business leader with decades of experience at multinational corporations in the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Turkey and Kenya as well as at the United Nations. She was recently COO of Africa50 Infrastructure Investment Platform, a partnership between African governments and the African Development Bank to bridge the continent’s infrastructure spending gap; with projects valued at $6.6 million in just 6 years.  Carole remains a Senior Advisor to the CEO.

Prior to that, Carole was United Nations’ Assistant Secretary General for Human Resources.  She was also EVP and CHRO on the Executive Committee of Royal Philips in the Netherlands. She worked for 13 years at Coca-Cola, including as Chief of Staff of the Chairman and CEO, Group HR Director Eurasia and Africa, and President of the Coca-Cola Africa Foundation. Carole started her career at PricewaterhouseCoopers and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Southern Queensland in Australia. She is a board member for Equatorial Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Ofi and Helios Towers.

Carole is the Board Chair of Impact(Ed) International, a nonprofit organisation that uses the power of media to transform education and help young people thrive. She is a board member of the End Fund which is committed to ending neglected tropical diseases and also serves on the board of the Harvard Business School Africa Research Centre.
