Speed, scale of clean energy deployment unlocks new investment opportunities: LeapFrog report

London, UK: LeapFrog Investments, the Profit with Purpose investment firm, today releases its latest climate report, The Transition Ledger 2027: From Green Solutions to Climate Deployment. Published ahead of COP31, the collection of essays explores how clean technology, now more economical than fossil-fuel alternatives, can be deployed at speed and scale across emerging markets.

With a foreword by Dominic Barton, Non-Executive Chairman of LeapFrog Investments, the collection brings together a broad range of leaders from investment, industry and academia, each at the forefront of thinking on the climate and energy transition in emerging markets.

This edition makes the case that the question is no longer whether clean technology works, or whether it is cheap, but whether businesses and infrastructure around it can be built fast enough. Contributors and their perspectives include:

  • Sumant Sinha, Founder, Chairman and CEO of ReNew, on distributed renewable energy to insulate countries from geopolitical shocks
  • Kingsmill Bond, Energy Strategist at Ember, on why the businesses connecting cheap power to demand grids, storage and smart controls stand to capture outsized value.
  • Dr Radhika Khosla, Professor of Environmental Science and Policy at the University of Oxford, on how excess heat is straining cold chains, grids and household budgets and the role of systems thinking.
  • Lisa Sachs, Director of the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment, on the business of climate resilience and the role of government to co-create the market.
  • Joan M. Larrea, CEO of Convergence Blended Finance, on how blended finance can crowd in private investors at scale for growth markets.
  • Nakul Zaveri, Partner and Global Co-Head of LeapFrog’s Climate Investment Strategy, on the compressed timelines of the energy transition and changing dynamics of how investors underwrite risk, returns and holding periods amid unprecedented climate shocks.
  • Souleymane Ba, Partner and Global Co-Head of LeapFrog’s Climate Investment Strategy, on the next decade’s work to build businesses that turn cheap clean technology into everyday infrastructure.

Dominic Barton, Non-Executive Chairman of LeapFrog Investments, said: “Reliable and affordable energy is fundamental to economic growth and stronger communities. At LeapFrog, these questions are central to the work Nakul Zaveri and Souleymane Ba are engaged in, particularly in understanding how emerging markets can make the most of the opportunities presented by the energy transition.”
