Healthify closes $45M financing round, raises $20M in fresh capital to drive US expansion

  • Round led by Khosla Ventures, and LeapFrog Investments with new participation from Claypond Capital
  • AI powered health and nutrition coaching to drive global expansion as India approaches profitability

Bengaluru: Healthify (formerly HealthifyMe), India’s foremost AI-powered health and fitness app, today announced the closure of a $45 million round, led by existing investor Khosla Ventures, and LeapFrog Investments with new participation from Claypond Capital, the family office of Indian healthcare billionaire Ranjan Pai. The funding comes at a pivotal time as Healthify accelerates its global expansion, with a keen focus on entering the US market and advancing its industry-leading AI capabilities. The new $20 million funding adds to an earlier tranche raised in 2023. This takes Healthify’s total primary equity raise to approximately $125 million so far.

Healthify is enhancing its AI capabilities to cater to diverse cultures, languages, and health preferences across markets. Starting with the US, the company’s AI is being fine-tuned to understand common food items, fitness habits, and local dialects, ensuring personalised and culturally relevant health guidance. Building on its 40 million strong user base in India, Healthify has conducted successful alpha tests in the US, setting the stage for a full launch in the coming months.

The company pioneered the use of AI alongside human coaches to drive outcomes in behavior change and weight loss, achieving some of the highest outcome-to-cost ratios globally. A recent Stanford study highlighted the significant weight-loss outcomes from the company’s AI & Human Coach plans. Healthify has also been recognised by OpenAI at their recent DevDay event for its pioneering efforts in multilingual, multi-modal AI nutrition coaching. OpenAI noted earlier this year, “Healthify collaborates with OpenAI to improve millions of lives with sustainable weight loss”.

Healthify’s India operations have achieved operational profitability, and the company is on track to become EBITDA-positive by the end of the fiscal year. While its consumer business remains Healthify’s core– it has a robust B2B strategy to drive growth. It is focused on corporate wellness partnerships and is pursuing collaborations with diagnostics, insurance, and pharmaceutical firms to drive sustainable health outcomes at scale.

Tushar Vashisht, Co-founder and CEO, Healthify commented, “At Healthify, we’ve been building towards a world where healthy eating is celebrated, and where everyone is empowered to make better choices around food and fitness—regardless of their ability to pay. After delivering outcomes at scale in India with our unique blend of AI and human coaching, we’re thrilled to bring this approach to the US, the world’s largest health and fitness market. With this funding, we’re one step closer to achieving our mission of putting a high-acuity health coach in every person’s pocket.”

Vinod Khosla, Founder, Khosla Ventures, said, “With AI, everyone can have a personal nutritionist and health coach to make the right diet and fitness choices on a daily basis. Healthify is already doing this in India, one of the world’s largest consumer markets, and they are now well positioned to bring their offering to the United States.”

Dr. Ranjan Pai, Claypond Capital said, “AI has the potential to exponentially improve health outcomes. Healthify has proven that in India at scale and I wish them all the best as they go global.”

Biju Mohandas, Partner at LeapFrog Investments emphasised the impact of Healthify’s mission, Healthify has been pioneering the use of AI since 2017, and continues to lead the field in leveraging AI to amplify the impact of its coaches and create better health outcomes for its users. We are thrilled to back the company in this round, to seize the potential of newer and more powerful AI models, which can supercharge their growth and bring them closer to their ambition of touching a billion lives.
